The City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development(GRYD)

  • Evaluated GRYD programs and guided its improvement with survey data from over 30,000 youths and 104 questions;
  • Predicted and discovered features that influenced youth's future risk to join a gang, using Python;
  • Optimized programs to be more targeted to a child’s specific demographic based on mathematical dynamic systems.

  • Applied quantitative insights to campus life and improved students experiences at UCLA;
  • Analyzed campus-wise database and produced data-driven articles at Daily Bruin, UCLA’s primary student news publication;

Research Assistant | COVID-19 Literature Clustering

Math Department, UCLA
March 2020 – Present

  • Discovered latent COVID-19 topics by applying modified clustering algorithms on collection of scholarly articles;
  • Created a hierarchical framework of topic-based search for COVID-19 related scientific papers, using Python;
  • Implemented an interactive website to present and visualize the hierarchical search framework in JavaScript.

Research Assistant | R Machine Learning

Psychology Department, UCLA
Sept 2018 – Present

  • Invited by American Statistical Association for presentation at 2019 Symposium on Data Science and Statistics and is preparing for the manuscript publication;
  • Compared performance of linear, lasso, and group lasso regression under conditions involving categorical predictors, and differentiated the cases where each algorithm is preferred;
  • Implemented machine learning algorithms in R to predict outcomes, and simulated data using Monte Carlo techniques.

  • Guided preparation of registered reports for successful publication;
  • Researched 100+ journals’ policies of registered reports with a group of 4 students;
